About Great is our Lord
William Sterndale Bennett’s motet Great is our Lord is a grand setting of sacred Latin text drawn from Psalm 146. It opens with a sense of awe, quickly establishing the majesty of God through its rich SATB harmonies and soaring melodic lines. The music reflects the text’s praise for God as creator and sustainer, who builds up Jerusalem and heals the broken-hearted.
