About Granville
Ezra Goff's setting Granville opens with the prayer of Moses, a plea to God as our refuge, enduring from generation to generation. The text contrasts the eternal nature of God with the transience of human life, comparing our years to yesterday or a watch in the night. The music sets the words of the Latin Bible, reflecting on the brevity of our days, likening them to grass that flourishes in the morning and withers by evening. The composer's SATB setting explores these profound themes, using the interplay of voices to convey the human condition against the backdrop of divine permanence. The work moves between Latin and English.
