Gospel Trumpet by James P. Carrell — Lyrics
Robert Spence, Pocket Hymn Book 1789
1. Hark! how the gospel trumpet sounds,
Through all the earth the echo bounds!
And Jesus, by redeeming blood,
Is bringing sinners back to God;
And guides them safely by his word
To endless day.
2. Hail allvictorious conquering Lord,
Be thou by all thy works adored,
Who undertook for sinful man,
And brought salvation through thy name,
That we with thee may ever reign
In endless day.

About Gospel Trumpet
The gospel trumpet sounds a triumphant call in this SATB anthem, urging believers to fight on to victory. The text, drawn from a hymn by Robert Spence, paints a vivid scene of redemption and conquest. It speaks of Jesus bringing sinners back to God through his redeeming blood and guiding them safely by his word to endless day. The anthem then calls upon the faithful to continue their fight, promising that victory will lead to palms, a share in God's kingdom, and glorious crowns. The resounding message is one of enduring faith and ultimate triumph in the service of a victorious Lord.
