Godea del sol i rai

Pomponio Nenna was a prolific composer of madrigals in the late Italian Renaissance. This setting for SATTB voices, Godea del sol i rai, is a fine example of the secular part-music of its era. The text describes a beautiful nymph, likened to a rosy dawn and then to a new star adorning the heavens. The imagery culminates in the nymph, captivated by her own beauty, declaring herself the dawn to Flora's sun, a poetic conceit characteristic of the madrigal tradition. Nenna’s music would have reflected this text's pastoral charm and expressive sentiment.
