About God me protects
This SATB setting opens with a strong sense of the divine power and protection described in the opening verses of Psalm 7. The composer draws on the contrapuntal possibilities of the choir to build a rich texture, contrasting the pleas for deliverance with moments of resolute faith. The text, taken from Psalm 7, begins with a prayer for salvation from enemies and an assertion of innocence, before moving into a powerful invocation for God to rise in judgment. While the original Latin is retained, the spirit of the English title, God me protects, pervades the musical setting, offering assurance and resilience through its carefully wrought vocal lines and harmonic progressions.
