Gloria Patri, et Flilio, et Spiritui sancto

Orlando di Lasso, a towering figure of the late Renaissance, composed this setting of the Gloria Patri for six voices (SSATTB). The text is the traditional doxology, a praise sung to the Trinity, concluding with the familiar "As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen." Lasso’s masterful polyphony brings this sacred text to life, creating a rich and resonant sonic experience. This motet showcases the composer’s profound understanding of vocal writing and his ability to imbue liturgical texts with devotional depth and musical splendour. It is a powerful example of the sacred motet tradition of the 16th century.
