Gloria, Old Hall 12 by John Burell — Lyrics
About Gloria, Old Hall 12
This setting of the Gloria Mass Ordinary is for three male voices (Alto, Tenor, Bass). John Burell's music is largely chordal, with the voices often moving in parallel motion. The texture creates a sense of solemnity, with clear declamation of the Latin text. The composer captures the exultant opening Gloria in excelsis Deo, moving through the Laudamus te and Benedicimus te sections with flowing melodic lines. The Agnus Dei provides a moment of supplication before returning to the final triumphant affirmations of Sanctus, Dominus, and Altissimus. It is a worthy addition to any service requiring a concise and textually clear setting of this important liturgical text.
