Gloria laus et honor by Jean Richafort — Lyrics

Gloria, laus et honor tibi sit, rex Christe redemptor cui puerile decus prompsit osanna pium. Israel es tu rex Davidis et inclyta proles nomine qui in domini rex benedicte venis.

About Gloria laus et honor

The words of this motet express the acclamation of Jesus as he enters Jerusalem, with crowds offering him glory, praise and honour. The text speaks of his kingship, blessed arrival, and how all of creation, heavenly and earthly, joins in praising him. Children's voices in the original text sing 'Osanna', and the Hebrew people come with palms and hymns. Jean Richafort sets this exuberant Latin text for SATB and STTB choirs, creating a rich and layered soundscape fitting for the solemnity and joy of the Palm Sunday narrative.
