Gloria in excelsis Deo by Marco Antonio Ingegneri — Lyrics
About Gloria in excelsis Deo
Marco Antonio Ingegneri was a significant composer of the late Renaissance, active in Cremona and later in Rome. This setting of the Gloria in excelsis Deo, from the Ordinary of the Mass, is a powerful example of sacred motet writing. Scored for SATTB voices, it draws on the rich tradition of Latin polyphony. The text, opening with the glorious announcement of 'Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to people of goodwill', is treated with majestic yet devotional four-part writing. The concluding Alleluja offers a final, exultant affirmation.
