Giu per la mala via by Giovanni Animuccia — Lyrics
Giu per la mala via, l'anima mia ne và,
s'ella non hà soccorso, presto morta sarà.
Il demonio l'inganna con la sua falsità,
e'l mondo anchor l'invita a far l'iniquità.

About Giu per la mala via
The Italian text of this motet paints a vivid scene of a soul led astray by worldly temptations and deceitful devils. The lyrics implore the soul to seek divine aid, warning that without help, it will perish. It urges the soul to use its free will, aided by God's gift, to earn merit by humbly praying to Jesus Christ, who suffers on the cross. Giovanni Animuccia sets this poignant text for SAT voices, creating a moving plea for spiritual salvation. This sacred motet, likely intended for devotional use, is a powerful expression of faith and the struggle against sin.
