Gitanita

This Spanish carol paints a scene of a humble manger, where a baby lies in his mother's arms. The text contrasts the infant's beauty with a foreboding premonition of his future suffering, noting he will be crowned with thorns and crucified at thirty-three. The composer, Traditional, sets this poignant nativity text for SATB choir. The music explores the tender yet tragic narrative, offering a reflective approach to the Christmas story. This secular carol, though rooted in the nativity, offers a profound contemplation of the dual nature of Christ's arrival: a moment of joy and innocence, shadowed by the knowledge of his sacrifice.
