About Giesu nostro riscatto
Giovanni Animuccia's sacred motet Giesu nostro riscatto is written for three voices (SST). The Italian text is a prayer of adoration and supplication, meditating on Christ's sacrifice and divine love. It reflects on Christ's descent into hell to redeem his captives, and implores him to overcome our spiritual evils and reveal his serene countenance to mortals. The music would have been composed for the Oratory of Saint Philip Neri in Rome, a setting known for its devotional yet intellectually engaging sacred music.
