GEN EBEALEN

"Gen Ebealen" (Praise God) is a vibrant Esan song of thanksgiving and adoration, composed by David Irobonosen with translation by Victoria Ekomemhen. The piece opens with a sweeping call for all the earth to praise God ("Agbon rebhe gen Ebealen"), setting a joyful and majestic tone. With its lively rhythmic accompaniment—featuring traditional percussion like the ekede, ukuse, nuke, and egogo—the arrangement brings a deeply indigenous, celebratory feel to the choir loft.

In the liturgy, this piece shines brightly as an Entrance or Recessional hymn, where its driving tempo and uplifting message can carry the congregation into or out of the Mass with gladness. It is also highly effective during the Offertory or at special celebrations and harvest thanksgivings. The dynamic interplay between the voices, especially in the verses where the choir builds up the praises of God the Father ("Ole Aba mhan"), invites everyone to join in the shared rhythm of gratitude.
