Gebet um Frieden by Ferdinand Thieriot — Lyrics
Du auch unsrer Feinde Vater,
auch der Gegner letztes Sehnen,
aller Müden stiller Rater,
trockne, trockne diese Tränen!
Ach es schwillt und will nicht enden,
wie ein Meer das rote Leid. —

About Gebet um Frieden
This moving German setting of a prayer for peace is suitable for services or concerts of reflection. The text expresses a deep yearning for reconciliation, acknowledging the suffering caused by conflict and appealing to a universal divine fatherhood. It implores for an end to tears and bloodshed, and for the resurrection of love and peace. Thieriot’s setting for SSA voices captures the earnestness of the plea, with devotional harmonies supporting the heartfelt message. The piece moves from a plea for enemies and adversaries to a broader call for all who remember God's covenant to unite in prayer for healing and harmony, concluding with a powerful repeated entreaty for peace.
