BABA, GBORE WA... by Yetunde Olajide — Lyrics
About BABA, GBORE WA...
"Baba, Gbọrẹ Wa..." is a lively Yoruba offertory hymn that captures the vibrant spirit of thanksgiving in the Nigerian church. The title translates to a plea for God to accept our offerings, and the lyrics reflect a deep sense of gratitude for His grace in our lives. It is a song meant for the moment the congregation dances forward with their gifts, bringing not just material offerings, but "ọpẹ, iyin, ogo" (thanks, praise, and glory).
The verses beautifully articulate the reasons for our gratitude. The second verse reminds singers of the biblical call to give thanks in all circumstances, acknowledging that whatever happens, God works it out for our good. The final verse is a heartfelt expression of appreciation, asking the Father to draw near, hear our thanks, and continue to bless us.
For a choir, this piece offers a joyful, rhythmic melody that naturally invites movement. The call-and-response feel in the harmony parts and the unison sections build a sense of communal worship. It is an excellent choice for the Offertory procession or a special thanksgiving service, lifting the hearts of the congregation as they present their gifts to the Lord.
