About Gaudeamus
Jacquet de Mantua's motet Gaudeamus is written for a substantial SATTB choir. The opening phrase, 'Gaudeamus omnes in Domino', sets a jubilant tone, inviting all to rejoice in the Lord. The music's character is shaped by the composer's masterful handling of the five voice parts, creating rich textures and intricate polyphonic lines. Depending on the chosen variant, the text shifts its devotional focus. It can celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Solemnity of All Saints, Saint Stephen, Saint Thomas the Martyr, or the Nativity of the Virgin Mary.
