Fuggite pur fuggite

Pomponio Nenna's SSATB madrigal Fuggite pur fuggite is a vivid example of secular Renaissance part-music. The text expresses a dramatic plea to cruel lovers, urging them to flee from the one who adores them. The singer implores them to strike at their heart, knowing that their anger can only lead to the singer's death, a death that brings release from life's suffering. This work would suit a programme exploring the intense emotions and complex word-painting characteristic of the Italian madrigal tradition, offering a challenging yet rewarding experience for an accomplished choir.
