Fuggit' Amore by Giovanni Domenico da Nola — Lyrics
About Fuggit' Amore
Giovanni Domenico da Nola was a composer of secular Italian part-music in the Renaissance. This madrigal for three voices, STB, urges lovers to flee from Cupid's power. The text repeats the refrain that love is only conquered by flight, advising those who love women to run away and seek freedom. It suggests arming oneself with disdain and remaining vigilant day and night. The only remedy for love, it concludes, is to flee, and those who can achieve this may be numbered among the blessed.
