About From the eastern mountains (II)

William Henry Monk's well-known hymn tune, here arranged for SATB choir, is associated with a text that evokes the Nativity and the journey of the Wise Men. The lyrics speak of the wise men travelling from afar, guided by a star to the humble home where the Saviour lay. The music is intended to reflect this sense of pilgrimage and devotion, with the text moving from the earthly journey to the heavenly reign of Christ. The verses call for Christ's light to gather all nations, guiding them homeward through darkness. This arrangement allows for a rich choral setting of a text that has resonated for generations.
