Fit Porta Christi pervia

Heinrich Finck's Fit Porta Christi pervia is a sacred hymn for SATB choir, sung in Latin. The music opens with a sense of gentle flow, the four voices weaving together in a pleasing, homophonic texture that soon develops into a more imitative dialogue. The text is Marian, celebrating Mary as the gate of Christ, filled with grace, who bore the Redeemer. It speaks of her as the 'genus superni luminis', the 'immensa spes credentium' (immense hope of believers), and concludes with the traditional Gloria Patri doxology, praising God born of a virgin, with the Father and Holy Spirit, for ever and ever.
