About Fiorite valli
Kapsperger's Fiorite valli is a charming Italian secular song for treble soloists (SSB) and lute. The music opens with a gentle, flowing melodic line, supported by the lute, setting a pastoral scene. The text, however, reveals a lament of unrequited love. The poet addresses the beautiful natural surroundings, pleading for solace from the pain inflicted by the faithless Eurilla. He describes his own suffering and the spark of new love ignited in his beloved for another, leading him to despair. He asks the tranquil valleys and crystal waters to bear witness to his anguish and his impending death, finding a bittersweet comfort in the secrecy of nature as his love and loyalty remain steadfast even in his final moments.
