About Filli mirando il Cielo
The lament of a young woman, Filli, expresses her deep sorrow as she gazes at the heavens. She feels herself dissolving into tears of love, languishing and dying, yet desperately seeking pity. Her youth and beauty are described with images of golden hair and rosy cheeks, but she foresees a future torment when her golden hair turns to silver. This Italian secular madrigal for solo voice beautifully captures the anguish and fleeting nature of beauty and love.
