About Filiae Jerusalem a 12
Jacob Handl's motet Filiae Jerusalem a 12 is a resplendent sacred work for twelve voices, divided into three SATB choirs. The music opens with a dialogue and interplay between the vocal groups, building to moments of grand sonority. The Latin text, a Marian antiphon, calls the daughters of Jerusalem to witness the martyrs crowned by the Lord. Handl's setting captures the solemnity and rejoicing inherent in the text, employing rich harmonies and intricate contrapuntal lines to create a powerful and moving expression of faith and celebration.
