These words are spoken by Jesus to his parents after they find him in the Temple at the age of twelve, asking why they were searching for him and reminding them that he must be in his Father's house. Bartolomeo Lombardo sets this poignant dialogue for SATTB voices in Latin. The motet unfolds the emotional weight of the moment, from the parents' distress to Jesus's gentle yet firm assertion of his divine purpose. The rich five-part texture allows for expressive harmonies and contrasts, bringing the sacred text to life.
