Fiamme, e strali by Stefano Bernardi — Lyrics
Fiamme, e strali in me scocchi,
Bella arciera d'Amore,
Hor con la bella bocca, hor coi begl'occhi.
Deh, tempra il fiero ardore,

About Fiamme, e strali
Composed by Stefano Bernardi, Fiamme, e strali is a secular Italian madrigal for SSATB voices. The text portrays a lover’s plea to Cupid’s archer, begging for respite from the burning arrows of love. The composer vividly captures the torment of unrequited affection, contrasting the piercing gaze of the beloved’s eyes with the fiery onslaught in the lover’s heart. This five-part setting uses rich harmonies and contrapuntal lines to express the text's emotional intensity, making it a compelling choice for a concert program exploring the dramatic potential of Renaissance vocal music.
