About Felice il Mincio
Gasparo Pratoneri composed Felice il Mincio for SATTB voices. This secular Italian madrigal draws on Renaissance part-music traditions. The text describes the Mincio river as blessed, basking in the sun of Reggio and the universe's admiration, its rich banks holding clear beauty. This contrasts with the singers' fate, surrounded by tears and woes, sighs and unheard cries. The music likely reflects this dichotomy between the river's serene glory and the human condition of suffering and lament. It is a five-part setting of a poetic text, typical of the genre.
