About Fals'Amor, vero inganno
Andrea Rota's Fals'Amor, vero inganno is a secular Italian madrigal for SSAATTBB. The text speaks of a false love that wounds the singer to death, but a more beautiful and courteous love offers solace. It begs this loving presence to untie the knots of cunning magic with a thousand charms and kisses. The poet declares that while he still loves the one who wounds him, he will love even more the one who seeks to heal him. The rich eight-part texture allows for a dramatic and intricate setting of this passionate text, typical of the Renaissance madrigal tradition.
