Facta cogitatum by Johann Kaspar Aiblinger — Lyrics
About Facta cogitatum
The composer Aiblinger here sets a Latin text that offers reassurance and steadfastness in faith. The words speak of entrusting one's thoughts and deeds to the Lord, who will then provide sustenance. They continue with a prayer against being overwhelmed by the 'tempestas aquae' (storm of water) and the 'profundum' (depths), and against being swallowed by the 'puteus' (well or pit). This SATB motet is a powerful expression of spiritual confidence and supplication, characteristic of sacred music from the period. The rich harmonies and contrapuntal lines typical of Aiblinger's style would allow a choir to explore the dramatic tension and ultimate peace offered by the text.
