EYEN ERONG ABASI (Lamb of God in Efik)

When the time comes for the breaking of the bread, the choir needs a piece that draws the congregation into a space of quiet reverence. Bright Mba’s "Eyen Erong Abasi" does exactly this, offering a gentle and deeply moving Efik setting of the Agnus Dei. Written in a flowing 3/4 time, the melody carries a sense of humble petition that fits perfectly into the Communion rite.

The structure follows the traditional three-part invocation of the Lamb of God. The first section asks for mercy ("tua nnyin mbom") as we acknowledge Christ taking away the sins of the world ("diok-nkpo ererimbot"), and the score notes to repeat this for the first and second invocations. In the final section, the music shifts its focus to a heartfelt plea for peace ("no nnyin emem"), repeating the phrase to let the calming message settle over the church before the faithful step forward to receive the Eucharist.
