About Exultet celum

This hymn from the Office of the Apostles would be sung on their feast days. The text, in Latin, calls upon the apostles as judges of the world and its light, begging them to hear the prayers of the faithful. It asks them to loosen the chains of sin, as they have the power to open and close heaven by Christ’s command. The text praises the apostles’ teaching, which guides believers toward heavenly things. The final verse offers glory to God the Father, his Son, and the Holy Spirit. This setting is for a treble, tenor, and bass choir.
