This substantial motet for six voices, SSATTB, is a setting of a Latin Gospel text. Sung in the liturgy on feast days honouring the Blessed Virgin Mary, it recounts the moment when a woman from the crowd, moved by Jesus's words and actions, calls out: 'Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts that nursed you.' Jesus's response, 'Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it,' is a profound theological statement on discipleship. Francesco Bianciardi’s setting draws on the polyphonic traditions of the late Renaissance, providing rich vocal textures and devotional depth suitable for a committed choir.
