About Exsurgens Maria
For a Marian feast day, this motet Exsurgens Maria sets a passage from the Visitation. The text describes Mary’s journey to visit Elizabeth, their joyful greeting, and Elizabeth’s prophetic words of blessing. Simon de Roy’s SATTB setting in Latin captures the scriptural narrative with clear, devotional writing. The extended vocal forces allow for rich harmonies and a sense of solemnity, making it suitable for a choir seeking music that combines biblical storytelling with expressive sacred choral writing. It is a fitting choice for liturgical occasions celebrating the Virgin Mary.
