Exsurge Christe

William Mundy's striking motet Exsurge Christe is suited for a variety of occasions within the sacred calendar, particularly during times of penitence or when the church is calling for divine protection. This powerful Latin setting for ATBB or ATBarB voices urges Christ to rise, defend, and save the faithful from enemies and division. The text invokes the spirit of apostolic truth, praying for its revival and for the confusion of those who oppose God. Mundy's music captures the urgency and fervor of the text, making it a compelling choice for a choir seeking a motet with both spiritual depth and dramatic impact. Its contrapuntal lines and harmonic intensity create a rich and engaging sonic experience.
