Exaudi Domine vocem meam by Pietro Maria Marsolo — Lyrics

Psalmus David, priusquam liniretur. Dominus illuminatio mea et salus mea: quem timebo? Dominus protector vitae meae: a quo trepidabo? Dum appropiant super me nocentes ut edant carnes meas, qui tribulant me inimici mei, ipsi infirmati sunt et ceciderunt. Si consistant adversum me castra, non timebit cor meum; si exsurgat adversum me praelium, in hoc ego sperabo. Unam petii a Domino, hanc requiram, ut inhabitem in domo Domini omnibus diebus vitae meae; ut videam voluptatem Domini, et visitem templum ejus. Quoniam abscondit me in tabernaculo suo; in die malorum abscondito me in tabernaculi sui. In petra exaltavit me, et nunc exaltavit caput meum super inimicos meos. Circuivi, et immolavi in tabernaculo ejus hostiam vociferationis; cantabo, et psalmum dicam Domino.

About Exaudi Domine vocem meam

The words of this motet are drawn from Psalm 27, a deeply personal expression of faith and trust in God, even in the face of adversity. The psalmist declares that the Lord is his light and salvation, and therefore he will fear no one. The text paints a scene of seeking refuge in God's protection, a sanctuary from enemies and troubles. Pietro Maria Marsolo's setting for SATTB voices explores these themes with rich harmonic language. This sacred work, sung in Latin, offers a powerful opportunity for the choir to convey the profound reliance on divine strength and the ultimate hope found in God's presence.
