About Evening Service, Tone VI/V

Charles Wood was a prominent figure in late Victorian and Edwardian English church music. He was organist of St. George's Chapel, Windsor, and later of Ely and Worcester Cathedrals. He also held a professorship at Cambridge. This Evening Service is set to Tone VI/V, a traditional plainchant method of singing the services, here realised for unison voices in English. The Canticles, typically Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, form the core of Evensong and this setting offers a clear and direct musical interpretation suitable for regular use in parish churches.
