Estote fortes in bello

Jacob Handl's Estote fortes in bello is a powerful motet for double choir (SATB.SATB.SATB). The music immediately conveys a sense of martial urgency, with driving rhythms and bold harmonies that reflect the text's call to spiritual warfare. The Latin lyrics, drawn from scripture, urge the faithful to be strong in battle against the ancient serpent, promising an eternal kingdom as their reward. The antiphonal writing between the two choirs creates a rich, resonant sound, amplifying the dramatic and exhortatory nature of the text. This motet offers a formidable and inspiring challenge for an accomplished choir, suitable for services or concerts where a sense of divine struggle and ultimate triumph is desired.
