About Estote fortes
The words of Estote fortes are a call to spiritual warfare, urging us to be strong in battle against the ancient serpent and promising an eternal kingdom. Luca Marenzio, renowned for his secular madrigals, also composed sacred music, and this robust motet for SATB choir is a powerful example. Its Latin text, a Marian antiphon, resonates with the strength and victory associated with the Virgin Mary.
