ESE OHE

When the choir brings out "Ese Ohe," the atmosphere in the church immediately shifts to one of deep, joyful gratitude. Sung in the Esan language, the title speaks of God's grace and free gifts. The lyrics remind the congregation of the boundless nature of this grace, praising the One whose good deeds towards us have no end ("O lu ese noi gbo kan"). It is the kind of song that naturally invites movement, making it a perfect fit for a lively thanksgiving procession.

Looking at the handwritten solfa notation, you can see how the composers build the energy. The voices weave together in a vibrant call of thanks, with the soprano line soaring above while the lower voices provide a rhythmic, driving foundation. During rehearsals, getting the timing right on the overlapping entries and the rhythmic vocalizations takes some work, but once it clicks, the result is a rich, full-bodied sound.
