Erstanden ist der heilig Christ

André Vierendeels’s STB setting of Erstanden ist der heilig Christ opens with music that reflects the joy and triumph of the Easter message. The text, a German hymn, celebrates the resurrection of Christ, proclaiming Him the comforter of all the world, freed from the bonds of death. The composer’s setting amplifies this exultant text, particularly with the recurring Alleluia refrains, which add to the celebratory mood. The interplay between the S, T, and B voices creates a rich texture that underscores the theological significance of the resurrection, the crushing of the serpent’s head, and the promise of salvation. This is a vibrant and devotional setting of a classic Easter text.
