About Epitalamio

The scene opens with the dawn, a radiant and gem-crowned Aurora, inspiring love and joy. The nymphs and shepherds are called to gather myrtle, laurel, and sweet flowers, for this is the happiest day, heralded by the god of marriage, Hymen. The music then shifts to a second part, urging the gathering of lilies and violets before the sun's ascent fades their beauty. Crowns and garlands are to be woven and presented to Hymen as he descends from the heavens, his golden torch in hand. This is a secular Italian madrigal for SATTB voices, depicting a joyful wedding celebration.
