Entre vous qui aymés

This anonymous SATB chanson comes from a rich tradition of French secular part-music. The text celebrates earthly pleasures, comparing the joys of good wine, fish, and poussin to the delights offered by a lover's breasts. The composer playfully lists these as desirable attributes, emphasizing freshness and plumpness. The music would have been intended for social gatherings, reflecting the often bawdy and witty character of Renaissance chansons. The setting is straightforward, allowing the humour and exuberance of the text to shine through.
