About En natus est Emmanuel / Geborn ist der Emanuel (Lo! Emmanuel is born)
Michael Praetorius, a pivotal figure in late Renaissance and early Baroque German music, composed this motet for SATB voices. The text, in Latin, proclaims the birth of Emmanuel, our Lord and Saviour, foretold by Gabriel. It paints a picture of the child lying in the manger, a wondrous boy, born this day from the Virgin Mary.
