About En etsi valtaa, loistoa
Jean Sibelius composed this moving Swedish carol for SATB choir. The text, originally in Swedish, has also been translated into Finnish, reflecting its broad appeal. It is a secular Christmas piece that eschews worldly riches, asking instead for divine glory, angelic protection, and peace on earth. The second verse pleads for a simple home celebration with family, light, and the word of God, while the final verse calls for the holy Christmas peace to embrace all people, rich and poor, during the winter season, welcoming the unchanging Lord and King.
