Emitte Spiritum tuum

Franz Xaver Witt’s setting of Emitte Spiritum tuum is for SATTB choir. The Latin text, drawn from the Mass Propers and the sequence Veni, Sancte Spiritus, is a powerful invocation of the Holy Spirit. The music opens with a sense of hopeful anticipation before the text calls for the Spirit to be sent forth and to renew the face of the earth. Witt’s choral writing shapes the plea for the Spirit to fill the hearts of the faithful and ignite the fire of divine love, creating a deeply devotional and expressive sacred work.
