About El Carnaval
This vibrant SATB setting of Javier Fajardo's El Carnaval opens with a sense of joyous anticipation. The music quickly establishes a festive and energetic mood, reflecting the text's enthusiastic call for everyone to join the celebration. The Spanish lyrics speak of unity and tradition, describing how the people dress up and come together in a fraternal game. It paints a picture of an inclusive festival where everyone is invited to participate, 'painting their faces black' and embracing the pure enjoyment of the occasion. The composer captures the spirit of Carnival, a time for dancing, revelry, and communal delight, through a lively and engaging choral texture.
