About Eden of Love
Joseph Funk was a leading figure in early American Sacred music, known for his hymnals and his own compositions which blended European traditions with American folk elements. This setting of Eden of Love for SATB with TrATB voices showcases his characteristic style. The text describes a deeply felt anticipation of heavenly bliss, a place of perfect happiness and peace, offering solace and inspiration to the singer. The rich SATB voicing, with the additional TrATB, provides a full and resonant sound, ideal for conveying the profound spiritual longing and ultimate joy expressed in the English lyrics. It is a powerful example of American Sacred music from its formative period.
