About Echoes
Howard Kingsbury's Echoes paints a poignant scene of remembrance and loss. The text evokes images of enduring nature – shining stars, flowing water, dim woods, and fountains – juxtaposed with the silence of a cherished voice from the past. The composer captures the mournful longing for "the past and all its beauty" that has "fled away." This SATB setting in English is a secular part-song that explores the pain of memory, as the echoes of happy hours become "mournful" and "sad and dreary."
