About Echo
Andrew Miller’s Echo is a setting for SATB voices of a poignant English text, exploring the longing for a lost love. The music opens with a sense of hushed anticipation, the voices entering softly to mirror the 'silence of the night' and the 'speaking silence of a dream' described in the lyrics. Miller’s writing captures the bittersweet nature of memory, weaving a rich harmonic texture that swells with emotion as the text recounts cherished moments and the painful reality of absence. The interplay between the four parts creates a dreamlike atmosphere, building to moments of intense yearning before receding into a tender contemplation of what has been lost. This is a moving exploration of love and remembrance, crafted for unaccompanied mixed choir.
