About Ecco Vinegia bella (a 12 voci)
Andrea Gabrieli’s Ecco Vinegia bella is a substantial Venetian festival motet, here arranged for twelve voices divided into two SATB choirs. The composer conjures a rich, sonorous texture, exploiting the antiphonal possibilities of the double choir to create a powerful sense of occasion. The text, a secular encomium of Venice, praises the city’s glorious past and anticipates the joyful welcome awaiting a returning hero. Gabrieli’s music rises to the occasion, with grand, declamatory passages and moments of tender reflection, all designed to celebrate the beauty and might of La Serenissima.
