Ecco felici amanti

This charming Italian sacred madrigal, Ecco felici amanti, paints a serene scene of celestial praise on a warm night. The text describes the infant Christ being lauded by the stars and beautiful angels. The composer, Marcantonio Tornioli, sets this devotional text for a treble duet (SSB), creating a light and agile texture. The opening lines personify love without its usual attributes of wings and arrows, suggesting a gentle, spiritual power. This motet-like treatment of a devotional text, typical of some sacred madrigal settings, would make a delightful addition to a choir's repertoire, offering a moment of reflective beauty.
